    Newborn Sweetness in Black & White

    Wednesday, March 30th, 2016

    There is just something about black and white newborn photos that make me swoon.  Of course, I love color photos and it is fun to capture a baby’s beautiful skin and sparkling eyes in color.

    But there is a pureness in B&W photos that I am drawn to. . .I love how it strips everything away and just shows the light and shadow.  I feel like it captures the mood and loving bond in these photos.

    This mom and dad are pros, even though the sweet little one was only a couple weeks old when we did this photography session.  Their little baby girl is in good hands!

    Look at this little angel!  She has the brightest eyes when she is awake and the sweetest little sleeping beauty face when asleep.  I could have held her all day!

    Welcoming a Baby Brother

    We did this photo session in the family’s back yard.  The morning light was gorgeous, and I loved capturing photos with the dog.  You can tell how much big sister loves her new baby!!

    Newborn Love {Alexandria, VA Family Photographer}

    Saturday, August 11th, 2012

    I’ve been going through my computer files and organizing them.  It’s my least favorite thing to do, but I came across these two recent newborn pictures, and I love them so much I wanted to post them.  They make me happy : )

    New Baby Girl

    Thursday, April 12th, 2012

    It is so fun to see a new baby come into a family.  This beautiful little girl has two big brothers!  She is so lucky to have them (and they are lucky to have her, don’t you think?).

    Newborn Sweetness

    Monday, March 5th, 2012

    This little boy was such a gentleman!  He’s only 8 weeks old, but already has a charming personality and such a twinkle in his gorgeous blue eyes!  And I could just nibble on those  little rolls of fat on his chubby legs and arms.  .  . don’t worry, I didn’t!!   But I did snap lots of pictures of them, and got lots of his tiny toes, too!

    newborn in basket I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet newborn baby boy when he was just ten days young!  We had fun putting him in the baskets. . .he was a PERFECT model.  He slept the whole time and didn’t budge!  Most newborns take a while to eat, have a diaper change, and get cozy.  But this little guy just wanted to sleep.  I could have photographed him all day!

    Newborn Photos {Alexandria, VA}

    Oh, there is just nothing better than holding a brand new baby.   Color photographs are great, but there is just something about black and white that is timeless, dramatic, and soulful to me.    There is a quotation I love by Ted Grant that says, “When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes.  But when you photograph people in B&W, you photograph their souls!”  It’s so true!
    This daddy could not get enough of his new son. . .I loved seeing the bond they already share.

    So what do you like better:  color or black & white?  Do you have a favorite black and white photograph?

    Bigger is better! {Chevy Chase, MD Baby Portraits}

    Saturday, May 28th, 2011

    These are portraits from a recent photo session I did of a beautiful two month old boy in Chevy Chase, MD.  He was so good-natured, and reminded me a lot of my little boy when he was that tiny!

    Here, I wanted to show an example of a wall grouping idea I had for the family.  One of the things I love to do is show clients how their photographs will look as a collage on the wall.  Sometimes it is difficult to visualize how your portraits will look once they are hung.

    This particular grouping is an example of what you could do with three 16×24 canvases (my favorite size canvas!).   Most people think a 16×24 is huge, but when you get it on the wall, it’s actually not so big at all!   We are used to thinking of 8x10s as a “large” photograph; however, on a wall, an 8×10 looks sort of dinky unless it is in a small space or grouped with other photos.   I think this particular grouping would look gorgeous in a nursery over a crib!
